What exactly is Competitice Hike?

Competitive Hike is a South Australia Rover event. It is based on the idea of a Rogaine, where teams of 2 - 6 are given a map with certain checkpoints marked. Each checkpoint has a number of points (20 - 90) allocated but will have a marker or question at the location on the map. Teams visit checkpoints to stamp their checkpoint card and answer the questions with the aim of getting as many points as possible in the 6 hour time limit. Teams may only travel on foot and must carry minimum standard equipment. Teams must be careful with time, for 10 points are lost for every mintues back late.

Who can participate ?

Competitive Hike is open to Rovers, Venturers and other Scouting Leaders.

What are the trophies?

We will have three perpetual trophies to hand out:

• * Winning Rover or Mixed Rover/Venturer Team ("The Boots")
• * Winning Venturer Team
• * Handbag Award (for the team who gave their best effort but came nowhere close to winning)

Where is Competitive Hike being held?

The start and finish point for the 2009 will be at Beaumont Scout Hall.

How much does it cost to enter?

Price is $10 and includes

• Maps
• Dinner - BBQ cooked after the finish of the event.

What do I need?

Every participant will need to complete an A4 Standard Application (if over 18) or a Y4 Parent Advice form, signed by your parents (if under 18). You can get blank copies of these forms from ERICA, or ask your Scout/Venturer/Crew Leader

You will also need:

• Water bottle/camelback
• Snacks, Lunch (or you can buy them from the many shops on the course)
• Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
• Pens, pencils, highlighters
• Comfortable walking clothes and shoes
• A compass may come in handy
• A small backpack to carry everything!

Your team will need:

• At least one small first aid kit
• At least one mobile phone.
